Assurance Of Salvation

Assurance of salvation is a blessing to the one who has it but it should not be a blessing just to him. When we know that God has saved us we will know that He can save others. When we doubt that He has saved us we will doubt that He can save others. When we know that God has done wonderful things in us and in our lives we will know that He can do wonderful things in others and in their lives. Others will be able to see our faith but our doubts can hide our faith. If we are not secure in our own salvation we won*t be very convincing to others that they can be secure in it. I have always been wary of car salesmen who try to sell me one kind of automobile but drive another.

Psalms 51:10-13: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

It is only when we have the joy of God*s salvation in our own hearts, that we are qualified to guide sinners to repentance. The believer desires God*s presence and the light of his countenance, not for his own sake alone, but for the sake of his fellow men.

Spurgeon: None teach so well as those who know the power of forgiving love by personal experience. Pardoned sinners are the best preachers to their rebellious fellow men.

The thing that keeps many believers from assurance is their sin. Just like David, we believers need to have our sin forgiven and a clean heart. Then sinners shall be converted unto Jesus.

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
